W.E. Cob's Oven Portfolio
The Emerald City - Near Pike Lake, Saskatchewan
The Emerald City was our first oven built in Saskatchewan. The inspiration for the design came from the home-owners, Carey and Rich Wilcox, and their love of the film "The Wizard of Oz".
The base is a mixture of rubble, broken concrete, and stones from the land then mortared together with Cob. There is a hole on the top (chimney) where a pot could be placed so it doubles as an oven and a stove. The interior diameter of the oven is 30 inches. |
The Maple Street Oven(s) - Maple Street, Saskatoon Sk.
Totoro - Saigon Outcast, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
This oven was built as a free workshop over the course of 6 weeks. We used broken speakers for the eyes, a coconut shell for the nose, and broken tiles for the teeth. We had several pizza party fundraisers for Green Youth Collective with this oven and would cook around 100 pizzas a day! It was full on, but a lot of fun!

Ness Creek Oven(s) - Ness Creek, Big River, Saskatchewan
The small oven at Ness was brought up from Saskatoon and used in the fall for baking everything from pizzas to bread to chicken to fritatas to quesadillas!
The larger oven is still in the process of being built, and will serve the forest garden peeps and their volunteers. |
